Origins

The Quinotaur is a creature with origins in French mythology, legend and folklore (in particular, Frankish mythology).

Among the only records of its existence discuss the Quinotaur attacking the wife of the Frankish king Chlodio while the two visited a beach. From the union, the creature sired Merowech, founder of the Merovingian Dynasty.

By a phrase commonly used to refer to it (Bestea Neptuni Quinotauri Similis, or "Beast of Neptune Which Resembles a Quinotaur"), it is speculated that the first was a divine son and/or emissary of the Roman god Neptune.

Appearance

The Quinotaur is a large fish-like creature, similar to a Hippocampus, but instead with the foreparts of a bull.

The creature's bull head also has five horns--two horns in the normal position, and three horns forming a sort of trident in the middle of its forehead.

Behavior

According to myth, the Quinotaur is aggressive, as it seems unafraid of coming after humans. It also seems to be attracted to humanoids, as evidenced by the first known Quinotaur approaching and raping the wife of Chlodio le Chevelu.

Abilities

Primarily, the Quinotaur's abilities are physical in nature. Foremost, it is an aquatic creature, capable of swimming with great speed, and holding its breath for at least as long as the average dolphin.

In addition, its hooves are at least as tough as those of a land-bull, and its foreparts have at least bull strength, while its tail is at least as strong as that of a dolphin.

Likewise, using its five horns, it can easily gore a human.

Not to mention, the Quinotaur is able to mate with humans, as shown by the rape of Chlodio's wife (and the subsequent conception of the King Merowech).

And perhaps most interesting of all, the Quinotaur is a son and/or divine emissary of the Roman god Neptune, thus giving it and its descendants favor with that deity (though, what this entails in unknown).
