Origins[]
The Valkyries are divine agents in Scandinavian/Norse Mythology. Originally the handmaidens of Odin, they come (often mounted on flying steeds) to collect the warriors who have courageously fallen in battle, who are then taken off to dine in glory with Odin, in the sacred grounds of Valhalla.
Appearance[]
Comely Scandinavian maidens, of varying hair and eye color; they are clad in the best armor. Its make varies, but it is often bronze, iron and similar metals (which is often woven into a mail undergarment, covered by the actual armor), as well as animal hide. Their boots are strapped similar to a Greek huntress of old, and their helmets are decorated with horns (similar to the Vikings), or with wings. They appear to be the essence of feminine strength, courage and beauty.
Behavior[]
The Valkyries are good orderly beings who serve their master's purposes and only take the dead warriors who fall valorously in battle. They are very dedicated to their jobs as psychopomps, and will gladly assist heroes against any evil that arises.
Abilities[]
They possess excellent fighting skill as well as heightened strength, speed, agility, metabolism, etc. They also possess the ability to do some magic. And due to their divine nature, they are capable of awesome acts of power, such as imbuing their weapons with energy, speaking with animals, perceiving and communicating with the souls of the dead, conducting the souls of the dead to the afterlife, and smiting evil beings. It is also known that their mounts commonly fly.
